50th Class Reunion & 4th of July Festivities in Fillmore

This past week we had the opportunity to accompany Mom to Fillmore for her 50th class reunion! She has been looking forward to the reunion for some time and was excited and anxious to get up there for it. We needed to get away for a while, so it worked out perfectly for all! We left on Friday mid-morning and drove the whole way. It was a long 13 hour drive, with about 11 stops made for all kinds of reasons. Anyways, we finally made it late Friday night. Aunt Rayma and Uncle Cloyd were nice enough to let us stay at their house... which worked out great because they have a basement where we could stay and not drive them nuts with all the kids! I am pretty sure we all sacked out that night... exhausted from the long days drive! I won't bore with all the details of our daily activies... but Mom was able to spend some time with Danna and Ginger (her good friends from high school) as well as see her other classmates and teachers! Sounded like she had a great time and was glad she was able to make it. We Nutts spent our days around town... saw Kung Fu Panda 2 in the awesome little theatre, drove out to Meadow to the cemetary, went for some scenic drives, watched the parade and watched the fireworks. It was a great relaxing trip! We took our time driving back to AZ, and finally made it back Wednesday evening. Here are some pictures of the fun we had!

Hi everyone....I finally was able to go to AZ to visit mom in May, and it was really great.....Mom, Kathy, Harper and Evrett picked me up in Prescott after my Conference for work in Las Vegas, and I spent about 5 days just hanging out and visiting......we went to Red Robin for lunch...

The next two pictures are from the Cheescake Factory, I promised mom I would take her there for Mother's Day.......it was really nice.... I LOVE YOU MOM!!!

We had a really nice waitor and we had him take this picture of all of us......Josslyn was asleep on the seat next to Kathy so you can't see her, but it was a Girls Day out.....Could Harpers Cord not be sooooo flippin cute........

Hooray for NO surgery!

This morning was Mom's follow up appointment with the orth. surgeon. They took another x-ray to see if there are any changes in the position of the broken bones. Everything looked the same, so for now... NO SURGERY! They want to x-ray again in 10 days, so until then Mom is slingin' it!!! She said today that even though there is still lots of pain, it is getting better.

Some more good news is that she has help coming in during the week. She has a physical therapist 3 times a week, an aid that will come help her shower and with household things, a nurse to help with her skin problems she is dealing with and they are working on getting her an occupational therapist as well, to help her try to use and get stronger with her left hand. This is her first week with the awesome helpers and she is very happy to have them coming. She is still being helped so much by her great ward with food and visitors checking on her. We are lucky to have so much help!

Please call her or stop by to visit if your are able... she still needs our support and prayers!

Broken

Mom... in a desperate attempt to get more attention... fell and broke her arm a couple of weeks ago. I took her to see an orthopedic surgeon a couple days later, only to find out that the break is really bad. My understanding of what he said, is that it is broken in 3 places. The bone is broken all the way thru right under the ball that fits into the shoulder socket... then the ball itself is broken into 3 pieces. If it heals as it is right now, it will be fine. However, if it shifts at all, it will require surgery to basically reconstruct the whole structure of her shoulder. NOT GOOD! So... she has been instructed to isolate that shoulder completely. We have an appointment to see the surgeon again on Friday, at which point he will take another x-ray to see if there has been any changes to the position of everything. Then he will make the decision about surgery or no surgery! In the meantime, there are a couple of other things going on with Mom's health due to not being able to use her shoulder and the medications she has been taking... Luckily she has a GREAT ward that has been helping to take care of her. Bringing her food and goodies... making sure she is comfy and even cleaned up. I am very thankful for all they have done! This week she is going to start getting some help thru medicare. She will have a nurse, a physical therapist, as well as a home help aid that will help with the daily tasks that she is struggling to do on her own without the use of her right arm. She does get pretty lonely at times, and would love visitors or phone calls! Thanks to everyone who has been helping her and giving her support in the past couple of months.... This is always a hard time of year for her, and she needs all of our LOVE and support!!! I will post more, when I know more!

It's been two years since Granpa Anderson Passed away, and Lori, James & Thomas took a trip to visit him and put some really pretty flowers there!

Back to The Citadel

I talked to Mom for a little while this afternoon and she said that they are going to be moving her back to the Citadel today sometime. She wasn't sure when but she will let me know what room and the phone # once she is there. The bandages on her foot have been changed a couple of times since the surgery and they told her that it looks good! Not as good as it could be, but good! So hopefully with the help of the nurses and staff at the Citadel, she will be able to keep off of it enough for it to heal up properly! I will let you all know her new info. as soon as I know it!

Surgery complete

Hi everyone! I know I sent texts to everyone, but just wanted to update on here too. Mom's surgery was this morning and everything went well. The surgeon was able to shave the bone down, and remove a lot of the tissue that was affecting the closure of the would. Then he was able to close it up completely which is very important for the healing process. He said it looks great and now the most important thing will be for Mom to STAY OFF OF IT! Hopefully with the help of the nurses, etc. she will be able to do that. Let me know if you need the hospital info., i.e. room #, phone #, etc. She could use all the support she can get, and as always I am sure that visitors are more than welcome!

The surgery

So there have been a couple of changes in the plans regarding Mom's surgery and recovery period. She will still be having the surgery this coming Friday morning at about 7:30 am. However she will be admitted to the hospital for 3 days following the surgery in order to get help from the staff, as opposed to coming back to our house the same day. I have been very uneasy about the thought of Mom coming back here for her recovery period post-surgery, simply because she has had a hard time keeping weight off of her foot in the past week that she has been here. The Dr. was really insistant that after the surgery she CANNOT put ANY weight on her foot whatsoever or the surgery will have been a waste of time. I don't feel like I would be able to help her as much as she needs and would feel really bad if she ended up losing her leg/foot because I wasn't capable of doing what needed to be done. I talked to the surgeon and he has arranged for her to be transported and admitted back into the Citadel for recovery, in hopes that they will be able to help her stay off of her foot and let it heal properly from the surgery! He didn't specify a time frame for how long she will/should be there, so I am sure we will just have to see how things go! I have felt really guilty about sending her back there, but I honestly think it is for the best and hope that she knows it is not because I don't want her here! It has been great being able to have her here in our home, where we can do what we can to help her out! Hopefully this will all be over soon and she can get back to her life!

Well, I picked Mom up from the rehab center on Saturday morning, and I am not sure about her, but I was happy to get her out of there. Not that they weren't great to her, but I really didn't love the place! I think and hope that she will be able to be comfortable here at our house for a while! We went and got some of her belongings from her house as to make her a little more comfortable, and I think she is liking it so far. It's hard to tell, cause I know it can be frustrating with 4 little ones running around and being crazy but hopefully now that the weekend is over and 2 of the 4 kids are back in school, it won't be too overwhelming for her. Please call and talk to her... she would love it! You will have to call my cell phone for now, because the phones we hooked up at our house are too old or something cause they aren't working. Once we do get new phones, I will send the # again, and that will be her phone line... since we haven't ever used it in the 3.5 months we have lived her.

Anyways... she seems to be doing good! The home health people will be coming to see her every 3 days or so to check the wound and change the bandages (THANK HEAVENS!) Then she will have her surgery on Jan. 23rd, and come back here until she feels ok on her own... I guess!

This morning I took Mom to her pre-op appointment for her foot surgery. It went well and the Dr. just explained what the process will be and what the risks are. This will be a very interesting next few weeks... as Mom gets released and tries to make it on her own again. Here is what it is looking like.

Saturday, Jan. 10th - Mom gets released from the Citadel at 10:00 am, and comes to our house.
Jan. 10th - 22nd - Home health care will be coming into our home to check on Mom, change her bandages, etc.
Friday, Jan. 23rd - Check in at the hospital at 5:45, surgery at 7:30 (how well the surgery goes will determine whether or not she will come home that day or stay in the hospital overnight.)
Thursday, Jan 29th - Post-op appointment with the surgeon - Mom will then come back to our house for a while.

On Christmas Day, we decided that we would try to visit Mom at the same time as to all be together with her, and to give her our gifts! There is a nice sitting area where we were able to sit and chat for a while. Here are pictures of everyones gifts that she opened! She loved them all!

Our chat with the surgeon!

This afternoon I took Mom to see a surgeon about her foot. They said that the wound is not healing and as long as the bone comes down under her foot, it most likely will NOT heal. The surgeon said that the last option we have before amputation is to do surgery and shave off the excess bone that sticks down under her foot. Then hopefully they can close up the wound enough for it to heal on it's own. He is scheduling the surgery for next week and it will be an outpatient procedure, so she will just go back to the rehab center after the surgery is complete. Hopefully! We also received word that she will probably be at the rehab place until Jan. 5th instead of being released on the 28th. They are supposed to confirm this tomorrow.

I went and visited Mom this morning for a bit and she split the wound on her foot open by putting pressure on it too much... so they are really stressing to her that she needs to stay off of it. She has to take the antibiotics for 4 weeks, so that will be up a couple days after Christmas. However, she is still planning on being released on the 23rd. As of right now, I think her plan is to come stay at our house after she gets released. Not quite sure for how long, but we do have a room downstairs that she is welcome to use while she is here.

A visit to Grandma!

I have been promising Mom that I would bring a couple of my kids in at a time to visit her! So Parker, Ev, and I went in to visit with her this afternoon! They were happy to see her! I snapped a few photos while we were there so you can get a glimpse into where she is and how she is doing!

Here is the cute little Christmas Tree that the Merrie Miss girls from her ward brought to her the other night. It has cute little ornaments of the nativity on it!

My silly boys found her glasses and thought it would be cool to try them out! Gma thinks Parker looks like Harry Potter!

Here is one of the many Christmas trees they have set up in her building! This one is in the little lobby/sitting area as you go in!

She seemed to be doing good today! She went and played Bible Bingo with a group this afternoon, and said it was fun! Hopefully she will do more activities to kill some time!!!

Update on Mom

Trev and I just got home from visiting Mom in the hospital and she said that when they release her from the hospital, they are going to be moving her to a rehab center, which will be covered by MediCare for a certain period of time. They gave her a list of about 40 different centers to choose from. We will need to help her in choosing one, and my suggestion was one that is close to Richard or myself. I guess we have some time to figure that.

Also after doing the surgery on her foot, they determined that there is NOT any infection (that they could tell) in the bone... which is a very good thing for Mom. However, I was at the hospital when one of the Dr.'s came in to see her and was able to ask a couple of questions and get some info on what is going to happen. The first and most important thing that needs to happen is that the sore on her foot, and now that cut from the surgery need to heal up... He couldn't stress enough how important it is for her to stay COMPLETELY OFF the foot (which seems to be dang near impossible). Every time she puts any pressure on the foot, is like taking 5 steps backwards. I guess the hospital rehab people came and tried to work on that with her today. The Dr. came and changed the bandages today and said that she popped two of the stitches already, from putting pressure on the foot. Not Good!!! Once it is all healed up, then they will have to determine the best route to take be it some kind of surgery to repair the foot, amputation, or there were a couple other things that I can't remember. I guess we just have to take one step at a time... but she can use all the visits and calls she can get.

Mom Update

I talked to Mom last night after she had her two Dr. appointments. She went to the podiatrist and he again told her that she needs to be off of her feet... wheelchair all the way! (Not easy to do for her!) He is also referring her to a Wound Dr. for the sore on the bottom of her foot. Apparently it is not healing very quickly and this could be bad news. The Pod. Dr. has mentioned the possibility of her losing her foot and/or leg. Let's hope and pray this does not happen!

The heart Dr. is referring her to a lung Dr. in order to try and improve her breathing as well as to help make her heart stronger.

Those of us that live nearby (myself included) need to try harder to make it by to see and help her as much as we can! For those of you that are not so close I know that a call, letter, prayers, and thoughts would be much appreciated by Mom.

It is really easy to get caught up in our own daily routines and crazy lives, but we need to remember that Mom is all by herself now and really needs our love and support! I know we all miss Dad so much... can you imagine how much Mom must miss him???

For anyone who is not a member of my family, or has not seen the pantry at my parents house... this post will not be of any significance to you. For those of you that know of what I speak, please check out the photos below. I wish I had thought to take some before photos, but since I did not, you will have to use your memories or imaginations. It only took me two days (keep in mind I have 4 children) to do it, but I successfully ridded Mom's pantry of any and all food that had expired, among many other items of which I cannot speak... SOOOO much stuff! It is now accessible and useful as a pantry. I even set up Mom a little Reliv section for when her "people" come to get product from her. It felt GREAT to get that done, so I thought I would share my joy with you! Now... ON TO THE KITCHEN!!!

(No that is not pee on the floor... believe it or not the linoleum is stained! CRAZY I know!)

I know that I am probably the only one that ever checks this blog, but oh well. Today is the 1 year anniversary of Daddy's passing, and I wouldn't feel right if I didn't post something on here. Even though I did post about it on my own blog.

As most of you may know, Mom and I went to Utah this past week to visit Grandma in the hospital. On the way there we stopped and saw a lot of places that remind me of Dad. I posted them on my blog, so if you are interested, please check them out. I feel that I have suppressed my feelings about him a little this past year, just because it is too hard to let them come out sometimes, and I don't really like to cry. This trip made me realize how much I really do miss him. But then I have to be thankful that he is gone as well, because he is not in pain anymore. What a great man he was! A great Father, Husband, Missionary, and example to everyone who knew him... and even those who didn't know him. It is such a comfort to know that we will be with him again!

In commemoration of this day, Mom had her friend Libby put together a silk flower arrangement to take down and put by his headstone at the cemetery. It turned out really nice, so I thought I would post a few pictures for any and all to see.

Hi everyone...we just wanted to thank you all for making our trip to Arizona and California so much fun!!! We had a BLAST! This is our happy family!

Devon is working at Englewood Hospital (7 minutes from home) and he loves it! He does all the Nurses Schedule's for the entire hospital!
Kari has been working for ACORD for a little over 2 years and really enjoys it. She is now the Executive Assistant for the "Senior Vice President" of the company.

Logan Lee is 10 now, and he's very busy with sports...his favorite is Soccer. Now that it's winter, he's playing Basketball and is the tallest kid on his team. So far they have had 4 games and are undefeated! He also won NJ Nets Tickets from his coach because he made a basket from almost 1/2 court within the last 10 seconds of a quarter. He decided not to play Baseball this year because he also is on a Travel Soccer Team that is during Baseball season and it's too much for our schedule's. Logan is in the 4th Grade, and on his last Report Card, he got all A's and one B+....we are very proud of him!

Kodi Lain is 7 now, and is also doing Great in school....he really likes his teacher and has learned so much this year! He still loves to play cars, and has a shelf that Devon made for him that goes around his entire bedroom full of cars.....it's really fun! Kodi also loves sports and is good at everyone he does. They had their first Basketball game last Saturday, and they won 3 to 2. Kodi made the 2nd basket for our team. Devon and Kari are coaching, so it's really fun!

Thomas is growing up so fast. He will turn 3 this year. He says really cute things, for instance he says he wants to play with potato which means playdoh, and he wants to watch "funny home D.V.- O's for Americas funniest home videos. He loves Thomas the Tank Engine and got a train table from Santa. He loves going to nursery and has many friends in there, mostly girlfriends.
James enjoys working for the Anaheim Libraries as a page driver. He delivers various items between the 5 brances plus City Hall. He is the Membership Clerk for our ward.
Lori works at a growing company doing billing, scheduling routes for drivers, and a qitet a few other things. She just got called to be 1st councelor in Primary a couple months ago. She loves is so far.
